Pratibandhi Suraksha Sanstha Assam threatens stir over recruitment issue

GUWAHATI: The PSSA (Pratibandhi Suraksha Sanstha, Assam), on Wednesday, alleged that the state government has deceived the differently-abled people in the name of employment. Reminding the BJP-led government of its promise to employ 1 lakh people of the state, the organization alleged that the government has failed to recruit even a single differently-abled person in the last seven months after the new government took charge.

PSSA secretary Nripen Malakar alleged that the Health Department has adopted a discriminatory role against the differently-abled persons in a recent job advertisement. Submitting a memorandum to the Director of Health Services at Hengrabari on Wednesday,

Malakar alleged that the Health Department has violated the 'Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016' in its job advertisement.

"The Health Department had published an advertisement (HSE/APTT/68/p-ll/2019/9031) in the newspaper for filling up a total of 2,720 posts of the third and fourth class in the health department.

The advertisement mentions that the "reservation of 4 percent seats for the visually impaired, deaf, aurally challenged and other disabilities under Article 34 of the 'Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act-2016' and the Assam government's 100-point roster of 2019.

"However, the department has divided the reservations of differently-abled categories under Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Castes and General Classes. Because of this, a person with a real disability will certainly be deprived of employment," said Malakar.

The PSSA has asked the Health Department to rectify and republish the advertisement within seven days otherwise it threatened to launch a vigorous movement.
